Learn about the dangerous effects and common sources of lead poisoning, basic prevention measures, and resources for additional help. Homes built before 1978 may have lead in older layers of paint. Children and adults can be exposed to lead through paint dust from remodeling activities, household items, hobbies, certain types of jobs, and lead contaminated soil. You can protect your family from lead hazards in the home, and prevent lead poisoning. This free class covers the basics about home lead hazards, and how to prevent exposure in day-to-day living. Portland residents receive free kits of lead poisoning prevention materials, including lead-safe cleaning supplies and testing materials such as Lead Check swabs and optional lead dust sampling kits.
