Calling all ye graphic designers, crafty folk and visionaries! Q Center and the Portland Area Business Alliance (PABA) announced plans recently for a new travel portal for Portland’s LGBTQ travelers, dubbed QueerNW.com. The collaborative effort is designed to highlight the Rose City, and its surrounding areas, as a destination spot for vacationing LGBTQ travelers. The launch will take place in Spring 2012.

Per a press release, the scope of the portal will be directed at both personal and business travelers. Organizers are also seeking submissions from local artists and designers to create a logo or wordmark for the website and marketing materials.

The QueerNW team is led by Marico Fayre of PABA. Committee members include Barbara McCullough-Jones, Executive Director of the Q Center; Jill Nelson, President of PABA; Bob Baskette, LGBT liaison for Travel Portland; Corey Eubanks, PABA member; and Heather McDaniel, Q Center liaison.

More details are to be announced in the coming months.

Check out the logo submission details after the jump…

Deadline: December 31, 2011

QueerNW requires a graphic identity to connect all of the eventual marketing pieces together, and collaboration team members are turning to the LGBTQ community for involvement and participation. Designers must submit their logos, along with complete contact information, to the QueerNW.com committee by 12 noon on December 31, 2011. Logos will be reviewed in January 2012, and finalists will be selected and notified by January 31, 2012.

Finalists will be reviewed by the committee and a focus group in February 2012. The chosen designer will receive a $100 honorarium and promotion on QueerNW.com website and marketing materials. Themes to inspire the QueerNW.com logo submissions include:

–Be inclusive geographically of the entire region, not just downtown Portland. The endeavor will eventually incorporate the coast, the wine country and Vancouver, WA.

–Be bold and playful with the word “queer” and other signifiers. For instance, what else might the letters L, G, B, T and Q represent in the QueerNW?

–Be unique in representing the spectrum of what LGBTQ means in the greater Portland area.

–Be thoughtful about how Portland and the QueerNW makes the LGBTQ experience here unique.

Submissions and questions can be emailed to QueerNW@gmail.com.
