Vigil against violence

Molly Olgin and Mary Chapa

The brutal shooting of Texas lesbian teen couple Mollie Olgin and Mary Kristene Chapa on June 22nd that left one dead and one in critical condiation came as a shocking blow in the middle of our country’s many Gay Pride celebrations. It has shown us that we are still fighting not only for our rights but our very lives. Oregonians have faced our own share of hate crimes and gay bashings so the community has stepped up to show support for our sisters to the south with an upcoming vigil this Saturday the 14th.

This is a volunteer-driven event with volunteers from Pride NW, GLSEN, Q Center, MCC Portland takes place at the Metropolitan Community Church (2400 NE Broadway, Portland, OR) at 7pm.

A Portland LGBT community show of support to Mollie Olgin and Mary Kristene Chapa, lesbian teen couple shot in Portland, Texas on June 22.

Flowers instead of candles, please! Attendees are encouraged to bring a flower rather than a candle. At the end of the vigil, the flowers will be collected and bundled into bouquets for LGBT seniors through Gay & Grey.

Check the Facebook invite for more information and please spread the word.
