Shiny Disco & Music Hall to open in Portland

Samuel Thomas

Samuel Thomas, the man behind SALT Presents and the Portland Queer Music Festival (our July cover), has announced plans to open a new bar that will incorporate live music with a dance club mentality. Taking over a current space on the West Side near Jeld-Wen Field (the exact location will not be announced until the lease is signed), the new bar is scheduled to open in early 2013.

When asked if it will be a Gay bar Samuel responded by saying, “ha, it will be about as gay as I am! I mean, I want to make a space that is truly all inclusive, something for the LGBTQ community as well as our allies and people who want to discover great new music and relax in a comfortable space…”

SHINY Disco & Music Hall will be exactly that – a place to catch live music, find a hot dance night and mingle with old and new friends.

“I have been listening to my community a lot over the last couple years and I really wanted to open a space that incorporated much of what is lacking in Portland – I want to make a space that truly benefits the community and works with them to create something amazing.”
